Beth Orton

With an indescribable voice and a definite charm Beth Orton came into my life via my crazy uncle. I have to say that through out the years my uncle has brought me some of the most interesting music I have ever heard. Some of it good some of it bad most of it weird in some way. Beth Orton happens to be one of the good from the endless stack of CDs he has given me. Why do I love Beth Orton? Well for starters she is experimental without being ridiculous (in a bad way) she manages to create a unique sound without making me want to sit for hours and hate her first. I think it could be her voice or her spot on fit to my life lyrics that makes me love her I can't not choose just which. She is quotable and beautiful and sings about being strong in the face of love and conquest and what is great is that you just don't notice those things at first. She has a definite stoner vibe without having to get high to listen and understand where she is coming from. And this my friends is why you should listen to Beth Orton. I really can not describe the ways she has changed my perceptions of music and how I think about listening to things but she definitely has. So check her out she is indeed wonderful.

My favorite album of hers is Daybreaker
And my favorite songs Ali's Waltz, Thinking About Tomorrow and Concrete Sky

As always I am including her myspace, her site and some info.

Tired but I ain't sleeping
Thinking about some sad affair
And why i should be leaving cos some of these thoughts
Only seem to take me outta here
These habits are so hard to break and they're so easy to make
These habits are so hard to break and they're so easy to make

Thinking about tomorrow tired form all the time I spare
On what I still believe in
When none of my talk ever seems to get me anywhere
These habits are so hard to break and they're so easy to make
These habits are so hard to break and they're so easy to make

So long bye my friend so long
So long will it ever happen again
You know that I've been waiting for you
I've been creating for you so long
You know the light ain't fading form you
Nothing could save me form you, so long

Tired but I ain't dreaming falling into solid air
And why I must be leaving or one of these days
I'm gonna pull out all my hair
These habits are so hard to break and they're so easy to make
These habits are so hard to break and they're so easy to make
So long, bye my friend so long so long will it ever happen again
You know that I've been waiting for you
I've been creating for you so long
You know the light ain't fading from you
Nothing could save me form you so long

Faith has a good side still everyone she ever loved they all turned bad
Constance his own way of breathing and you know
You couldn't will him to survive
Couldn't will him if you if you tried, and there's a concrete sky
Falling from the trees again and you know now why
It's not coming round too soon
It's harder than a heartbreak too

I've seen your good side but I still don't know just what it is
That you might want
See you've got your own way of moving
And you know you could save me
Save your soul, I'll save some of you
Save my soul, feel like I'm falling fell like I'm falling
And there's a concrete sky
Falling from the trees again and you know now why
It's not coming round too soon, it's harder than a heartbreak too
It's tough enough what love will do

So much time gets lost in my mind
But I know now what I must rely on
It's a sound and forgetting, ain't the worst thing
I've been out walking don't do too much talking
Wouldn't take too much time, wouldn't take all your time
Cos it's as precious as mine Save my soul, I'll save some for you
Save my soul feel like I'm falling feel like I'm falling
And there's a concrete sky
Falling from the trees again and you know now why
It's not coming round too soon, it's harder than a heartbreak too
It's tough enough what love will do
And you're as precious as mine
And you're as precious as mine...

Alex Henry- Sketch

When I was in High School I was desperately in love with a guy named Alex Henry. Now Alex is an underground rapper in the Seattle area. His recent CD The Nightmare Man is being hustled on street corners around the Seattle Renton area and he has reached a little of acclaim at the very least with his friends. Alex Henry's style is multifaceted he jumps between dance club music to hardcore rock rap. He is extremely talented in mixing genres and a lot of his music and I do indeed enjoy his lyrics and what he raps about. He tends to be funny and talk about life in Seattle and where we grew up. All I can say is that I have mad love for Alex because of what he does. Check him out.

As always here is his myspace.

Since Alex AKA Sketch has not made any music videos yet I recommend the following songs which are on his myspace:

Movin On Feat Renton
My Underground
Row by Row

All of it is good those are just my favorites.

The Empyres Pretty Evil Little Regime

When I was in High School I had high hopes of being in a band some day but I was highly untalented in the music department. My friend Luke however, convinced me that if I could learn guitar that he would be in a band with me and we would sing all the songs I write. However, I cold never master the guitar but Luke (the blonde guy in the photo) has moved on to form a band of his own. Hailing from Renton Washington the members of The Empyres Pretty Evil Regime mix a fusion of different styles and musicality. It features rap as well as vocals and some really great compositions. What I love about these guys, besides that I am friends with the guitarist and singer, is that they represent what people with drive and talent can do even with limited resources. They represent a fun and free style that is different but reminiscent of something old. Listen to their lyrics and listen to the beats and guitar. They are really great. Since this is a indie band it is really hard to find there music online as well as information about them.

As always I am leaving there myspace.

R.I.P. The Twenty Twos- Led by three female vocalists and featuring a make drummer this band broke the mold by playing mostly upbeat punk. Though they had a really great and cohesive album their record label left them stranded on tour (F you Sony) and they disbanded shortly after so they could pay off the debt the incurred from said tour. Needless to say they need to get back together so they can be resigned.

R.I.P Flee The Scene- One of the greatest punk/screamo/emo/hard rock bands I have ever heard I am not typically into this kind of music but they really spoke to me and they also broke up for no apparent reason other than they were tired of making music. This unique song fronted by a really talented female singer made for an electric combination that I guess just wasn't meant to be.

R.I.P. Something Corporate- Yes Andrew McMahon has gone on to bigger and better things but I still have a special place in my heart for his first band Something Corporate. With great instrumental and nine minute long songs they just speak to me. It is sad that they no longer make music together.

R.I.P. The Thurston Revival- Poetic one man bands which make you thirst for more are rare to find. The Thurston Revival was not only one of those he is a fallen one. He was never officially picked up by a record label and should have been and for some reason he has just stopped making music all together. There is no real news about him and it is really hard to find any of his stuff (even me the internet queen can not find a single site with one of his songs on it.) but if you manage to take a listen it is really great.

Best Break Up Songs

I am going to Try something new by making a playlist post where I leave links to certain songs that best represent a theme. This time it is Best Break Up Songs.

1. +44 "No It Isn't" ( I think that these lyrics say a lot about not just breakups but abandoning relationships in general. It is rumored that Mark Hoppus wrote this song about Tom Delong when Blink-182 broke up. The reason it is titled No It Isn't is in reference to this rumor. Mark Hoppus wanted to make clear to his fans but I say "Me thinks the lady doth protest too much." I really love this song and it is great to just say "Eff you." Make sure to click the hyper links with each video.)

2. Dashboard Confessional- "Rapid Hope Loss" (This is just a personal favorite I think the best part of this song is the line "So much for all the promises you made they severed you well and now they are wasted on me." Ignore the front man Chris' horrible hair this is the only video where I have seen it like that.)

3. Damien Rice- "Rootless Tree" ( I have never heard someone sing the F word so beautifully.)

4. Kat Micucci- "Just Say When" (Kate Micucci has some really great and up beat songs and I love the everyone of them but this one is by far my favorite and completely fit the theme.)

5. The Twenty Twos- "Touch and Go" (Oh the Twenty Twos you left to soon. I wish that their record label hadn't of screwed them over so they could make more songs like this. Such great lyrics and arrangements and overall bad ass chicks.)

6. Earlimart- "Happy Alone" (The title pretty much says it all and I am glad someone sang about loving yourself and being fine with being alone.)

7. Wham "Careless Whisper" (<--- Yea I went there.)

8. Don Henley - "Forgiveness" (I remember hearing this at a wedding when I was around 9 or 10 and thought it was odd because this is definitely a breakup song.)

9. Tina Parol "Who's Got Your Money?" (When your man screws you over do it back and make it hurt his pocket. Thanks Tina Parol this is a girl breakup anthem.)

10. Justin Bieber- "Baby" ( I love to roll my windows down and blare this song and sing at the top of my lungs. I don't care what anyone thinks. )

11. Tritt Travis "Here's Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares." (My manager at work asked me to put this one here. So I complied. ahah.)

12. She & Him- "Thieves" (Requested by Ashley Sanchez)

13. Something Corporate- "Konstantine" (Nine minutes long but an amazing song. This has got to be one of my favorite songs ever.)

14. The Killers- "Mr. Brightside"

15. My Chemical Romance- "I'm Not Okay."

Christa Borden

On late night drives home from my job 96.5 actually plays unheard of music. That is how I found out about the next artist. I was driving home around midnight after my shift at Hell's Motel and I heard Christa Borden on the radio. Now this is one of the few times that song id has failed me horribly but I ended up finding her because I googled her lyrics.

Christa Borden is very unknown I don't know if that is due to a lack of self promotion or because people aren't interested but she is actually fairly talented. Her first album I Rhyme With Orange has just come out and besides decent song writing chops she has a great voice so check her out.

As usual I am leaving her myspace and official page.

EMPTY BOTTLES Lyrics

Wake up to a hangover, an empty shell of me
Doubles are never a good idea after one or two or three a.m.
I called you when I sobered up but I should have known
You’d have better things to do with your time than listen to me
Crying and begging you to come home

It’s a little too late
The buzz is gone
We drank it down fast it didn’t last that long
We got high for a while
On more than we could swallow
And now your love is just an empty bottle, an empty bottle

Dried my tears and made some coffee
Washed these shadows off my face
Still can’t sleep in this big bed we used to share
I think its time for me to move out of this place
Still can’t believe its over and there is nothing I can do
But I know that you’re in love with her
And somewhere in my broken heart I’m happy for you

It’s a little too late
The buzz is gone
We drank it down fast it didn’t last that long
We got high for a while
On more than we could swallow
And now your love is just an empty bottle, an empty bottle

I’m so parched my lips are dry
Your desert love wasteland of lies
You quenched your thirst on my demise
I swallowed every tear I cried

It’s a little too late
The buzz is gone
We drank it down fast it didn’t last that long
We got high for a while
On more than we could swallow
And now your love is just an empty bottle, an empty bottle

Glass Pear

Have you ever listened to something and found it so hauntingly beautiful that it entrances you for hours on end?

This is how I feel about Glass Pear and his song My Ghost. First of all since I am an avid television fan I find a lot of music that way. On an episode of Bones they featured the artist Glass Pear, though it was only like twenty seconds of the song I still felt completely enraptured. So I whipped out my phone and used song id, the best invention ever and found out who it was. Low and behold it was Glass Pear. Now I must say since then I am a little obsessed and it turns out Glass Pear is a very sentimental acoustic artist. However, he does have a great range that includes influences like 80's pop etc. His voice is amazing too and he is pretty charismatic and charming looking which does not hinder his appeal. So I suggest you check him out.

Here's his myspace and site as usual and a video.

Lovers come and lovers go,
Once they lived but now they're ghosts,
Walking the streets they used to know like shadows.

People disappear every hour and every year,
Sometimes I believe they're here like shadows,
Like shadows.

Who can you trust, in this place?
And whom can I put my faith?
If you're real, then show me now,
Who you are.

How can I love, without grace?
Shine a light on your face,
If you're real, then show me now,
Who you are.

Blowing like a secret wind,
Pouring on my naked skin,
Like a river flowing in the ocean.

And when I turn to see your face,
I saw a joy I could not place,
Vanishing without a trace,
Like a shadow in the sun.

Who can you trust, in this place?
Where can I put my face?
If god is love, then why the world the way it is?

How can I love, without grace?
Shine a light on your face,
If you're real then show me now,
Who you are.

My ghost.

Matthew Perryman Jones

So I am a ubber fan of depressing and lovesick music. Maybe it is the secret romantic in me or maybe it is because I read a lot of Samuel Daniel as a kid but I really love it. Now most people think that if you listen to depressing music that you will ultimately become depressed. I think that is like saying that Schopenhauer is depressing all the time when in reality he is uplifting. Case in point is Matthew Perryman Jones. This artists manages to make even the saddest lyrics and topics some how uplifting and beautifully optimistic. I love him because he has an amazing way with words and he is a fantastic musician. His compositions are catchy and have a hint of blues, rock and jazz influence. I also really love that he is much better in person than he is on CD. This quality, I think only helps to solidify how talented he is.

I highly suggest that you listen to him he is absolutely fabulous and if you can just let yourself listen to him he will take you in and rapture your soul. Just saying.

As usual here is his myspace and official page.

Out Of reach (Lyrics)
by: Matthew Perryman Jones

You're always bound to fall
there's nothing you can do
the weight of gravity begins
to pull you down again
so what are you to do now?
stuck between the hope and doubt
you get so close to clarity
makes you question everything

You're so far away
so far away from me
Is it starting to break
underneath my feet
You're so far away
Am I just out of reach?

We keep talking in circles
staring out with empty eyes
wanting to be known again
but so afraid of letting in
so do i leave it all to history?
will you ever answer me ?
do you still recognize my voice
or is it lost among the noise

You're so far away
so far away from me
Is it starting to break
underneath my feet
You're so far away
Am I just out of reach?

While the world unravels
we're kicking at shadows
and everyone around us
is making up chaos
oh, I cannot find you
I'm walking like I'm blinded
am I saying anything at all?

You're so far away
so far away from me
Is it starting to break
underneath my feet
Is it set in stone
could someone tell me please?
Am I all alone?
Am I just out of reach?

Pomplamoose

There is a fun and exciting new kind of video surfacing on youtube. Basically, this trend involves music videos and the rules are very simple: the artist must show at some point the instrument, person singing or thing that was used to make a noise. NOw this requires some creative people and some creative editing but it makes for some really great and exciting music.

One of the artists that I think utilizes this style of video really well is Pomplamoose. Jack and Natalie the two members of the band do fun and awesome covers of some very popular songs as well as make their own material, which is really great. I suggest you check them out because they are feel good and unique their music exemplifies the idea that you don't need a lot of money just a lot of spirit to make music. They are also really funny and use their fan base to do things like donate chickens and goats to third world countries. They are just overall awesome so please listen.

Here is their myspace

And as always a video!

A cover-- Lady Gaga Telephone (I love the dancing in it and look for Jack drinking out of a water bottle)

And an original --- If you think you need some loving

Lyrics
If you think i'll give you money, well honey that's just funny cuz i got none. No money, ain't got no money. If you just want conversation go somewhere in the nation, not my house. But if you think you need some lovin, that's fine. Cuz if you think you need some money, well you can't have mine, and if you want some conversation try a pickup line. But if you think you need some lovin, that's fine.

If you think you need a shrink, you're draining down the sink, go take a hike. Ain't got no time for your baggage. If you think you need a fix, don't put me in the mix, just stick to wine. Whine, wine, whine, wine, whine, wine. But if you think you need some lovin, that's fine. Cuz if you think you need a shrink, well I'm out of time. And if you think you need a fix, I'm not the fixing kind. But if you think you need some lovin, that's fine.

And my favorite video they have done--- Nat King Cole Nature boy

John Daly

Let's admit there is some crap on youtube and there is also a lot of amazing. It can take a lot out of a person to weed through all the crap to find the golden nuggets of fabulous but it is work that I am willing to do. Considering that I tend to find a lot of the music I listen to on youtube it is no surprise that most of the stuff I listen to people have never heard of so this post is dedicated to one of my new discoveries.... John Daly.

Now I tried in vain to find some information about this guy out there in cyper space but my efforts were fruitless. According to his youtube page though apparently he is a reader whose favorite books include "'the Stars my Destination,' by Alfred Bester. 'I ching' (brian browne walker) 'Put me in the Zoo' by Robert Lopshire" and he likes the Beatles. However, I feel the lack of information about this guy adds to the mystery behind his solemn and beautiful music. He strums his guitar and strokes the keys of his piano with an air of pain. His lyrics speak of a love that happened once but will probably never happen again. His haggard yet charming eyes tell a story that involves sleepless nights and tears. All in all I find his music to be sad and mellow with an air of hopefulness a combination that is so rare and unique in this world of poppy over played crap that it lulls you in slowly but surely. I am sure this is all here say considering that he has a child in most of his videos but it is the way the music makes you feel that matters. So take a listen to John Daly and let me know what you think.

Here is one of my favorites.

Wale

Not a big fan of hip hop, the music I love the subculture, it is really hard to find music in this genre that I genuinely like. I think being white has also given me some hindrances. However, I have to say I am a HUGE fan of smart rap. I think T.I. said it best "The rappers nowadays are comedy." Most rap music is about where you're from and what beef you have or how many hoes you can trick. Now it is not to say that I don't have mad love for the hip hop scene, I did grow up in Seattle after all, but it is extremely rare that you find smart and really great hip-hop nowadays. However, there is a shining ray of hope in the murky waters of this music Wale.

Why do I love Wale? Well simply because he is intelligent and new and the way he samples and mixes his songs is also inspired. This is music that I am not ashamed to get down too or just drive to. Wale is a progressive artist it is best to listen to his album as a whole and consider it as one volume of work. So check him out. I am including some background on him. Also I am including his myspace.

Here is a video of Wale's

The revolution will proceed
unification of the dmv I will achieve indeed
I decree I'm forming a new alliance

nobody seems to care we so complacent with the vacancy
see, the love is gone with one another, it's hard
nobody rep for the skins, they busy cheering them stars
it's ironic, it's the same for the artists
rather than buy our songs, they busy cheering the stars

we have so much in common, starting at the feet
Goadome Nikes, the cortazone of the poem writer

MOVITS!

I really love cultural music and despite the fact that most of my music catalog contains a lot of progressive and indie I do quite enjoy stepping out the of the lines and find new things. A few months ago The Colbert Report featured Movits! on the program and they performed their song Fel Del Av GÄrden. Now what initially intrigued me about Movits! is their combination of jazz inspired melodies with awesome bass and beats. They have managed to combine some really great and considerably opposite genres of music and have made a brand new style. The Swedish Rap jazz group is however about a lot more than that. When you get down to it they are three white guys spinning some of the most awesome lyrics I have ever heard and they do it with style and class. Which makes me wonder if they are the beginning of a new bred of rap music.

Now being a lyric person myself I can understand how it is hard sometimes to listen to music that is not in a language that you understand or even in a language that is not native to you. I speak fairly good Spanish and still have trouble listening to Latin music. However, their is something very freeing about taking lyrics out of the pisture of a song. You are able to finally listen to the actual arrangement and judge if it works. For Movits! it does indeed work and it works so well that it is addicting. Their feel good and jazzy vibe is intoxicating and uplifting it manages to make even the hardest of hearts want to get up and dance. So check them out!

As always here is their myspace and a video if theirs:

I took the liberty of translating their lyrics for everyone

Coming from the wrong part of the yard, from the other side of the track
I grew up with gypsies
playing accordion
wanting to tell my future
while my dad emptied a bottle of Explorer [cheap vodka]
taught myself to play guitar and those chords
Djangos quintett playing from the grammophone
with second hand suits in the closets
and brass bands live every night in the garden

it started out good but then the problems came
stepped in the sh*t early, and the tax bill
i mean the responsibilities
rights
governments
the justice system
the likelihood is small, the unemployment office admits
maybe one should change name or
sell the mobile home or
knock out the gold tooth or
but some time the prejudice must be caught up with

You can call me an outsider
because i didn’t do what the others did when they
did what people did back in the days
no, I'm not the neighbour above
but the old lady calls the cops every time and says that I make the noise

Comes from the right part of town
that's the problem
I grew up in the nicest neighbourhoods
my dad is a designer etc.
my other dad is already late
myself I was a kid and adopted
so my school time was very hard and complex
because my classmates thought it was wrong that
and the teacher was soon to get her pension
not their fault that
things turned out the way they did
according to recommendations from the holy scripture

johans dad “watch out, he’s the anti-Christ!”
according to miss teacher who tried to explain it sure
maybe we should have shot her
or carried her out of there
now she’s dead and lies in the urn
but in some way the words still live on
the house peace, or something like that

I barely have any time to listen to your criticism
not Lykke Li [a Swedish pop star]
but pretty happy [Lycklig - a play on words with Lykke Li]
so lady please give me a chance to listen to my music
but no
Not “when in Rome”

If the spoon is made of silver I'll take it when I get there
they told me so many times
so thanks but no thanks, I'll find the exit
but everything is just a dream

I’m swedish, I mean, I just go past the line
I’m even a man and I have a higher wage
as long as I don’t sit around with no job

I like the opposite sex
So kid I’m hardly what you call a f*g
But kid I might be what you call slow
cause I don’t understand what you’re saying even if I hear you

Legaci

So I am going to admit it I am a HUGE Justin Beber's fan. Laugh it's okay my love will never die. Anyway... So I was surfing youtube as I usually do and I found a cover that a group called Legaci did of his song Baby. Now Legaci mostly does youtube video covers but they are getting started the same way Justin Beber's did so there is nothing wrong with that. What I like about them is that their vocals and compositions are really solid. They have amazing great harmonies and take songs and manage to make them their own. This kind of music excites me because you have the ability to chronicle the process. So check out Legaci!

Funny enough I happened to check out this band because I liked their name. Just Joshing (kinda) this band is hard to describe they are pretty mixed genre but their C.D. Challengers flows so amazingly well together it's hard not to get caught up. The New Pornographers got my attention because they have a reminiscent sound. Most of their songs could soundtrack several of the pivotal moments of my life. I am sure that property is transcendental and that their music could be the soundtrack to most people's lives. Most of the songs on their Myspace only play half way through so I am posting a youtube video with this post press play and enjoy.

My Rights Versus Yours by The New Pornographers
Under your wheels, the hope of spring
Mirage of loss, a few more things
You left your sorrow dangling
It hangs in air like a school cheer

Complex notes inside the chords
On every wall inflections carved
Deep as lakes and dark as stars
Remember we were the volunteers

(Ooooh) Courts knew this and nothing more
(Ooooh) Now it's my rights versus yours

Under your wheels, your hopeless reign
You fall too hard-we're up too late
We hang suspended from the heights
Until it's safer to walk here

Under your wheels, your chance is with
The easy call, the called-off search
The medicine, it still won't work
But there's dangerous levels of it here

(Ooooh) Same thing as the other time
(Ooooh) But now it's your rights versus mine

The truth in one free afternoon
The truth in one free afternoon

Under my wheels the chance is held
Gave me to save me from myself
Spectacles painted with my shaking hand

Fingers in paints, in paints we brought
Thinking we'd leave them when we're not
Flying the flags of new empires in rags

The new empire in rags
The truth in one free afternoon
A new empire in rags
The truth in one free afternoon
A new empire in rags
The truth in one free afternoon
A new empire in rags
The truth in one free afternoon

Under your wheels, the fits and starts
The time to dabble in the arts
To tease the packs of dogs in charge
But kid it's all wasted on me

Under your wheels, the hope of spring
Mirage of loss, a few more things
The medicine it still won't sing
But there's dangerous levels of it here

(Your rights over my rights now
We came to the right place
Your rights over my rights now
Your rights over my rights now
We came to the right place
Your rights over my rights now
Your rights over my rights now)

I found out about this band by accident. I happened too be watching an episode of Kyle XY (which is a show I never watch but it was late and my warm milk hadn't soaked in yet, not that its not a good show. Whatever) and the song Nevermind the phone calls came on. It peaked my interest and so I did some research and found them on several soundtracks for tv shows from Kyle XY, to House M.D. to The Riches. This is one of those bands that people hear on tv and is infectious but they get minimal radio play. Don't let that foul you into thinking they are not amazing it just means they aren't completely mainstreamed. So check them out.

Hymn and Her is the most recent release from Earlimart take a listen to it. The melodies are so beautifully arranged and the lyrics are reflective and awe inspired. This band takes you there. However, I really love their previous album Mentor Tormentor because it is more of a sublime and nostalgic album that reflects on loneliness and love. It is an interesting and not so classic take on the love song and the pining song.

Happy Alone by Earlimart
Call in the airstrike, tell them to make the drop
and initiciate a cycle no-one but you can stop
Would it be fair to say that you're in love with love?
And is that enough?

I bet you feel really potent stuff
the shadows of doubt on how things turn out
are typically gray

But even the stucco on the wall
is right two times a day
and it's still enough

Just how much distance means we're on our own?
and can we be happy
Happy alone?

The universe opens up the door
and we go right in, it's there, it's new, it's cool
it's something we ain't seen before

And five minutes in
an egg timer rings
to clip off our carefree flapping wings
show us the things we can't afford
and throw us overboard
but it's still enough.

Just how much distance means we're on our own?
until i see you off at home
down the sidewalk in my head
I might be sinking like a stone
but perfectly happy
just openly happy

In my home, I've always known
I gotta be happy alone
so burn the mail, destroy the phone
yeah, I'd wanna be happy alone
the moving sky, the rocks below
All so perfectly happy alone

Mountain Goats

So the story behind this band is that I heard their song No Children a few years ago (by a few years ago I mean like 4 years ago) and it was so depressingly up lifting that I fell had over heals for it. Unfortunately, I heard it on a burnt C.D. in my friend's car and it has haunted me ever since.

Not knowing the band name or the name of the song I was screwed so I forgot about it. Ever so often the songs chorus would pop into my head ("I hope you die I hope we both die") and other random lines.

So eventually I googled it using the lyrics I knew and since then have found out that The Mountain Goats sing the song No Children. Coincidentally, the rest of their stuff is just as bad ass. Here's some wikipedia history.

Mountain Goats embodies an experimental style of music which they mix with catchy and pithy lyrics. They have a very folky and frothy sound that radiates joy. I like to think of them as a dark comedy band because of their mix of the upbeat musicality and their sardonic lyrics.

No Children By The Mountain Goats

I hope that our few remaining friends
give up on trying to save us.
I hope we come up with a fail-safe plot
to piss off the dumb few that forgave us.
I hope the fences we mended fall down beneath their own weight.
And I hope we hang on past the last exit;
I hope its already too late.
And I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
someday burns down;
and I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away,
and i never come back to this town again.

in my life,
i hope i lie,
and tell everyone you were a good wife.
and i hope you die!
i hope we both die!

I hope I cut myself shaving tomorrow;
I hope it bleeds all day long.
Our friends say its darkest before the sun rises,
we're pretty sure they're all wrong.
I hope it stays dark forever.
I hope the worst isn't over.
I hope you blink before I do.
I hope I never get sober.
And I hope when you think of me years down the line,
you can't find one good thing to say.
And i'd hope that if I'd found the strength to walk out,
you'd stay the hell out of my way.

i am drowning.
there is no sign of land.
you are coming down with me,
hand in unloveable hand.
and i hope you die!
i hope we both die!

Musical Education

This blog is in response to this question "Who is that you are listening to?"

I am not going to pretend to be an expert in anything that has to do with music or even say that I have remotely great taste in music, that is not to say that I don't love everything I listen to but I will say that no one ever knows who the hell I am talking about when I talk about music. So since it breaks my heart every time I have made a decision I am going to post a different band that I like on here and tell you why I like them and I encourage all of you that read this (because obviously you have nothing better to do) to go look them up. Kapish?

This weeks band is El Condorez

Check out their myspace

With a vibe that is very reminiscent of what was done with rock music in the eighties which they combine with a smooth and haunting sound of their own. This is definitely music to vibe too.

I heard of them on the BUTR podcast and I fell in love with their song Nothing Is Real and coincidentally the rest of the stuff they have posted on their page. Check them out. Their lyrics are really amazing and so is their guitarist. Pay attention to what they are singing and get caught up in it.
